I’m John Langley. I left school at fifteen. I’ve been writing Bristol accountability journalism since 2010, and I have no party allegiance, no press accreditation, and no editor telling me what I’m allowed to say.
The Almighty Gob is what happens when nobody stops me. Over a thousand pieces and counting, covering politics, power, and the gap between what institutions say and what they actually do — which, it turns out, is quite a gap. I’ve filed over 88 Freedom of Information requests against Bristol’s public bodies. I stood as an independent candidate for Bristol mayor, twice, in 2016 and 2021, on no party’s ticket but my own.
I write from what I call the anarch position: inner sovereignty, no tribal capture, the system observed from a seat it doesn’t own. That means I go after Labour, Conservative, Green and independent alike, whenever the facts point that way — and they usually do, for all of them, eventually.
The writing is satirical. The facts underneath it aren’t. Every claim is checked, sourced, and hyperlinked before it goes anywhere near a headline.
If you’ve ever felt something wasn’t adding up, you’re probably right. You know where to go.
